Budget portable WiFi NAS for iPad (6.xx MB/s over wifi5)
Background:I needed a Wi-Fi based NAS and had bought the TL-WR902AC V1 version a few years back, which I ended up bricking while trying out OpenWRT. Eventually bought ‘RavPower FileHub’ which worked well for over 3 years and would give a rate of about 2MB/s. Needed a replacement and filehub’s are not sold anymore. The TL-WR902AC is the only decent mini Wi-Fi NAS in India as of now. The ‘GL.iNet’ routers are overpriced here for some reason. Also, the V3 version presently being sold solves most of the problems which plagued it previously.Do update the firmware as the functionality is much improved after update with SMBv2 support. The V3 version I received is US version, and not the ‘EU version’ as mentioned on the TP-Link India website, check before updating firmware. The firmware update supported smbv2 and supports even the native iOS Files app. In iOS -> connect to server -> ‘smb://192.168.0.1’ -> guest as the user and viola, the files app will recognise SMB drive. It’s even easier in Windows and Android. As a NAS Drive, I get up to 6.3 MB/s sustained read write speeds over wifi5 when connected to an SSD.Cons–The WR902AC only recognises fat32 and NTFS, exFAT is not supported. (Tip: SSD with exFAT does not support TRIM, stick with NTFS)-No Battery, needs external micro-USB supply (no usb-c).-Single USB2.0 portOverall, happy with the performance. Especially recommended for iPad users which forces lots of compatibility restrictions. It is a good enough for streaming and media consumption. Was able to play 4k files easily. Have not used it with a 3G/4G dongle or used it to convert wired signal to wifi, so cant say anything about these use case scenario.

Superb Travel Modem
Modem concentrated on travel oriented task and does well in utilising mobile internet, LAN internet, USB Modem and HOTSPOT.One downside is during power up WiFi get error in connection and resolve automatically after 5 min. Issue persists even after updating to latest firmware and every powering on device. And during open box USB CABLE MISSING, cannot claim since not taken video

Wi Fi connectivity issue. Worst call center support. TL WR 902 AC, AC 750 Wi Fi Travel Router.
Very Disappointed.TTL WR 902 AC, AC 750 Wi Fi Travel Router.Product description says it can be used to make WPA2 Enterprise wifi as private wifi. But No support for WPA2 Enterprise PEAP. It actually can not connect to WPA2 Enterprise wifi setup. The worst thing is their call center doesn’t take the call even after even 12 rings after a long queue wait when it gets connected to representative, happened twise. They don’t know hot to configure. They promised call but never called me. 3 executives disconnected the call after listening to the problem. Even after 8 calls no proper answer as they dont know about their product. The product quality, packaging seems good. But all these are meaningless when the router is not doing what it is supposed to do. Even worst feel is their call center support. On email they never replied till date.Only good thing is this product can be returned.

This review is about the TP-WR902AC Travel Router (Do not confuse with other routers here)
First of all – please get this fact right. The seller has placed multiple routers in a single ad. The Star ratings that you see is an aggregate of all the routers. Therefore, let me first clarify that this review is about the TP-WR902AC Travel Router. Seller has put so many routers on the same page either inadvertently – or deliberately. Either way, it misleads customers. When you start to set up the router, it asks whether you want to configure this as a “3G/4G Router” or as a “Wireless Router”. One of my uploaded images clearly shows “3G/4G USB” written beside the USB port. If you are seeing Q&A to understand this router, you will have seen some answers saying that there is no USB port. If you have been to the Q&A section, I am sure you are as confused as I was.Not only does this router have a USB port – the port serves a dual purpose.* In 3G/4G mode, this is where you connect the dongle* In Wireless Router mode, this accepts an external USB which can be accessed by your devices with proper configuration. I have added a screenshot for this too – showing my external USB disk partitions as sda1 and sda2Configuration is easy – my son (12th std) got to work on a router for the first time and he did it in minutes. Both 5 GHz and 2.4GHz WiFi working excellently (Yes – you will have two WiFi signals from this one, as the AC suffix suggests)If you configure this as a repeater, you will experience loss of speed (as with ALL repeaters – something which I explained in my review of the Netgear EX3110 extender … search for ASIN: “B07B1B2CZT”). However, in my case I pulled a LAN cable from my main router to this one. This makes it simple to connect – just select “dynamic IP” and your router is connected. I get ISP speed and hence happy about it.Just beside the ethernet connector, there is a switch to select whether you want to share ethernet, share a hotspot or create an Access Point.Signals are very strong (as expected, the 2.4GHz gives higher range while 5GHz gives better Signal-Noise ratio). The 2.4 GHz is reaching a third room about 20 feet away – penetrating two walls. So yes – the signal is good.Three dampeners why I gave one star less:1. Cable is just about 1 foot long (see image). Now *that* is cost cutting. I had to use an extension board to be able to place it on the table. Plug point is just about a metre higher. Wonder how much profit TP Link is making by saving the cable length !!2. The MiniUSB charging port is a bit inside – therefore every miniUSB charging cable may not be suitable (it will keep falling off). To get a proper one, you need to see and compare the sizes to buy the longest (This one needs an additional 1mm to fit properly). This is not the only device with this issue – and there are many cables easily available – only you need to physically search for it. Online purchases may not work.3. This does *NOT* accept third party software. dd-wrt definitely is incompatilbe. OpenWRT includes this under their compatible routers list, but their forum says they lose the 5GHz band. Also – no clarity whether OpenWRT will support the 3G/4G mode. However, the OEM firmware is great in itself offer many options to use. So I suggest you stick to it.The hardware version I got was TL-WR902AC v3 00000001 which probably uses a Mediatek card. The preloaded firmware was 0.9.1 0.2 v008a.0 Build 191209 Rel.57116n(5553). When I tried to upgrade from the India site, it said incompatible firmware and when I googled more to realize that this is probably a US firmware. I tried to upgrade to the US firmware and was told that the router already already the latest, so no changes made here.SUMMARYPros: Ethernet input, Dual-purpose USB, 3G/4G support and rock solid dual-band signals in a pocket-sized package costing less than â¹ 2000 … I guess that speaks volumes to help you decide.Cons: Short power cable (1 foot) and no compatibility with dd-wrt or OpenWRT made me reduce one star.I felt that this is truly what it claims to be – a powerful travel router with 3G/4G mode available.

Do not purchase this item
Item quality is good. But this didn’t serves my purpose. I want to return this product but no support form the Amazon. There is a replacement option but no return. If you know the product then only purchase otherwise don’t purchase . This product is simply lying with me. Rarely useful. Think all the available options, finally purchase. This unit heats up.

I have several of these travel routers that are easy to set up, powerful, and which work great in hotel environments. You can create a secure work space that is private, passworded, and without the need of CAT5/6 cables. I have several throughout my home as access points and repeaters. I even have on in my garage. I also use these to expand my coverage/signal for my home security cameras. Important to note, these are not made for outdoor use. Highly recommended.

If you travel a lot, either with work, or with the family on holiday, this TP-Link TL-WR1502X Portable Router might just save your sanity. Before a family holiday, you can sit at home, with a cup of coffee and connect all the family devices, the phones, laptops, tablets, iPads, Steam Decks, portable printer etc. Then once you get to your destination, switching on the router will connect all the devices to a secure local network, the printer will see the laptop for example. Then all you need do is either plug the router in to the hotel ethernet port, or log in to the router’s management page, scan the Wi-Fi networks, find the hotel guest network, connect the router, and viola, all your devices are now connected to the internet via the Portable Router. If you have not used a TP-Link device before, they have very intuitive menu interfaces. The one for the TL-WR1502X is particularly good, and even Muggles will be up and running in minutes. The other tech gobbledygook is handled by the router automatically. There are some really nice extra features offered by the TL-WR1502X. You can set up a router VPN (virtual private network), so if you were in a country that blocks say, Netflix, you can just swing your connection back to your home country, and enjoy all the entertainment accounts you have. You can even connect back in to your home network in your house, if you know what you are doing. So you could be on the far side of the Earth, but your devices all think they are back home. TP-Link also do an app called Tether. This app is very good, and lets you manage all your TP-Link devices, including the TL-WR1502X. You can do everything in Tether, from rebooting the device, to setting up your devices to either the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz Wi-Fi channels, to maximise performance. You can even tell the router to give priority to the games consoles, if they are active. There are also all the usual parental controls, so internet connection can be time-limited to the children’s devices, if you wish. And the beauty is, on your next family holiday, all you need do, is make one connection to the new hotel network/Wi-Fi, and you are up and running again. A good travel router like the TL-WR1502X is pretty much a vital necessity these days, for the travelling business person, or family holiday. Several YouTubers did full performance reviews of the TL-WR1502X. They found the radial signal strength to be good, and the router radiates a strong signal upwards. So, if you are renting a two-storey holiday house, the router is best placed centrally on the ground floor, for best coverage. The final feature, that might earn you some free drinks at the hotel bar, is the router offers a guest network feature. So, if you find yourself befriending the hotel neighbours, and they are not getting on well with the hotel Wi-Fi, you could set them up on a separate guest network from your travel router. The two networks will be completely separate from one another. Just make sure to get a free dinner out of it. Price versus performance versus features, the TL-WR1502X really is a no-brainer. Highly recommended.
