One thousand years ago, in the valley of Kashmir, a great Tantric master named Kshemaraja wrote his masterpiece: the Pratyabhijnahrdayam, which means “The Essence of the Recognition Philosophy”. This text was a concise primer, written to introduce spiritual seekers to the Recognition philosophy in less formally philosophical, more approachable language. What Kshemaraja created turned out to be one of the world’s great spiritual masterpieces, breathtaking in its brevity but stunning in its power. It came to be considered equivalent to scripture itself by later generations, because of its undeniable inspiration. This book expounds the subtleties of this spiritual and philosophical classic. One of the most powerful and revelatory spiritual masterpieces of world history, the Pratyabhijnahrdayam is one of the primary sources for the study and practice of nondual Tantrik Yoga, and it has never been accurately translated or fully explained until now.

Italian tantrik in India –
An important book on my Path
You know when a book falls into your lap at the right time in your life. This one fell on me just when I was ready for it, two years into my searching on spirituality and Kashmiri Shaivism. It was as if everything came together, little by little, without effort, like pieces of a puzzle masterminded somewhere else. I don’t know if I would have treasured it so much had I read it as a virgin from any such knowledge. But all I know is this book opened my mind, touched my heart and is going to accompany my practice from now on. I have copied and summarised chapter 18 that contains the practical tools for reaching the centre of our being, I feel guided as if I had met a guru and intend to follow each step. My gratitude.

Mr Wallis is a rare breed and a gift. He has a rigorous scholarly understanding of the text plus practical meditation experience to bring this hidden text to life. He uses plain clear language and ideas to lift thus esoteric text into a practical manual for meditation and life. This is perhaps more suited to someone with several years meditation practice and some familiarity with Hindu and Buddhist ideas. However the map of consciousness presented here will help all earnest travellers see the road that lies ahead. The great sages mentioned here, and this work created by them is astonishing.

Very good comentaries and explanations. It’s suggested very often to deepen to refer to his previous book tantra illuminated.I had it, and as I liked so much I bought this one too, reading both is a very complete vision of classical tantra.

Love Dr Wallis’s podcasts and that he is making this beautiful ancient wisdom accessible to all, so carefully and thoughtfully. Very grateful!

I was at first intimidated by the size if this book but I must say it is so easy to ready I am enjoying every single page of it. I have never found an author who is able to explain concepts that are 1000 years old in such an easy to understand, down to earth manner. I love this book and will read it over and over!
