Egor, a fresh college grad from Russia, takes his classmate’s advice and joins a popular VR game, hoping to earn some cash. But with a tight budget that won’t cover a full account or a fancy VR immersion capsule, he opts for a free trial account and fires up his ancient gaming console.
Laggy gameplay, crappy graphics on his old TV, a sluggish internet connection—who cares about all that when you’re not there to play? Egor’s plan is simple: mine ore in the sandbox and slaughter hordes of rabbits, all in the name of scoring some sweet loot. Little does he know, he’s about to stumble upon an item that will make the game’s elite players stop at nothing to take him down…

The Grind is a compelling entry into the LitRPG genre that breathes new life into the classic underdog narrative. Set in the vast and immersive VR game Rakuen, the story follows Egor, a broke Russian college grad who starts with nothing but a free trial account and a relic of a gaming console. What begins as a desperate attempt to earn quick cash quickly evolves into a thrilling adventure, thanks to a unique pickaxe that absorbs attributes from destroyed items. This seemingly insignificant tool transforms Egor’s journey, turning his outdated setup into a formidable asset that even the game’s elite players covet. The author skillfully blends humor, strategy, and a richly detailed world, making Egor’s rise from a low-level grinder to a force to be reckoned with both entertaining and inspiring. The Grind stands out with its fresh take on LitRPG tropes, offering readers a mix of unexpected twists, clever tactics, and virtual world chaos that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

First of all I enjoyed this. The problem is I read not as an escape per say, but definitely donât want to think about real life responsibilities and drama. This made it impossible to separate the two. I get what the author was trying to do, just didnât enjoy that aspect.

I like the down to earth feel of the main character. His struggles with life/money. He stumbles at first to figure out how to solve some of his problems. His mom getting hurt really made this character special to me. Having to find money to pay for hospital bills for a family member is tough. A great story all around.

Well. i must admit I have read everything by Dan Sugralinov. All his books are highly entertainigIMO.This particular book rally feels back to basics in the genre. And that in the very best way.Fastpaced, always interesting. So a very good read. I noticed in the afterword that more books are coming in the Sidus universe. this is great news I think so I am now also looking forward to this,
