Does the job , as long as the HDD is fine
I’m writing this after receiving the replacement after i found the 1st one not able to read any 3.5 inch , larger type, SATA HDD. Original and replacement , both do a great job for the smaller 2.5 inch laptop HDDs. I had almost written off the replacement too as defective as the 3.5 inch HDDS which was recognised by any desktop PC when connected internally through SATA and molex cables . Hence, presumed that HDDs were totally fine, and this new enclosure was faulty. Now realise that of the 3 of 3.5inch HDDs, 1 is read by this enclosure, whereas 2 are not detected. These 2 are detected when connected internally to a desktop though. Later on studying the matter, i found these old 3.5 inch SATA HDDs got jumpers too , and the health may be different than expected. Hence, may not be detected by this device. 1 of the 2 not being detected shows up a drive not spinning type phenomenon. When held in palm, one could feel the torque of the spinning switching on and off almost once every second. The HDD tried rotation when held in palm, as if starting and stopping action of a motor. Hence, my advice is, try transferring important data via a standard internal desktop connection to a smaller 2.5 inch HDD or SSD; and forget about such Enclosures to rescue anything from the 3.5 inch HDDs. These are best suited for the 2.5 inch ones. Lot learnt after buying this. Thanks to the seller too !
