I bought this book at the beginning of February and wanted to wait until I’d used it to write my review. I can honestly say that it is the best curry recipe book I have (and I have a few!).The book itself is small and has no colour illustrations but that doesn’t matter because the recipes are so good, who cares if the picture is in colour?! We all know what curry looks like! The secret to the skinny curries is the curry base which you cook in a big batch and freeze in portions ready to use when you fancy making a curry. Each curry recipe then uses 2 portions of curry base (recipes ate based on cooking for 2 people) plus the individual curry ingredients depending on which curry you choose.I have tried four of the curries now and can honestly say, they are the Nice’s curries I have made from scratch and as a bonus are about half the calories! My favourite so far is the Garlic Curry. (Don’t be put off by the amount of garlic in it! It isn’t overwhelming when cooked and I didn’t stink of garlic the next day!)I would recommend this book to any curry lovers whether calorie conscious or not. I’ve cooked these for both skimmers and none skimmers and everyone has enjoyed them.

I have looked through the book but as yet not made anything, but the recipes look really good and I like the fact that there are recipes for the curry base it is not just store bought curry powder,I hope to start trying the recipes out this week, very excited as I love curry and would feel a lot better knowing I am consuming less calories than on my usual curries.

This book focuses on low-calorie (!) versions of British Indian takeout. How you feel about the book is going to depend almost entirely on how you feel about that style of cuisine. Some people like it a lot, others don’t. It is not “authentic” Indian food as served in Indian homes, but for a lot of people, this is “real Indian food”.Restaurant style Indian food is built around a master sauce which is prepared in large quantities and then serves as the basis of almost everything. This book provides a low(er) calorie version of the sauce which can be divided into individual servings and frozen for several month. This is much more convenient for the home cook. The recipes themselves are portioned to serve 2 and built around a single skinless boneless chicken breast. The results are never going to receive the American Heart Association seal of approval but they are definitely lower calorie than the original versions of the dishes.
