New to Double J? Here’s how you can connect, wherever you are.
On their first single Wildfire Manwurrk come as a powerful combination of Rose Tattoo, The Hellacopters and Pennywise. ‘Lonely Bangardi’ is hard as rock ‘n’ roll with an anthemic chorus and soaring lead breaks.
The song, which is sung in the Kune, Dalabon and Rembarrnga languages, had humble but profound beginnings.
“I wrote this song ‘Lonely Bangardi’ because I was so lonely, heartbroken,” singer Sires Rostron said in a statement.
“I was sitting, watching country, wondering, and I was like, ‘I’m gonna get up and do this song, ‘Lonely Bangardi,’ about myself and how I feel. And I thought, ‘Oh yeah, I’ll make Lonely Bangardi a rock ‘n’ roll song”.
It’s one hell of a rock ‘n’ roll song, capturing some of the best parts of 80s hard rock, some of the most anthemic elements of California punk, and giving it rock ‘n’ roll edge and urgency. modern.
The chorus will stick in your head all day and those searing guitars will make you want to dust off your own ax if you have one. It’s a powerful introduction to a brand new band who have yet to release their debut EP.
The band’s intentions go far beyond making killer rock songs.
“This music, it looks at both worlds,” Victor Rostron (Sires’ father) says of the band about the band and its intention.
“We tell our honest story by using the music of Balanda (whitefella) and Bininj (blackfella) together. Kunborrk (ceremonial songlines) with modern instruments are our dual tools.
“We have a story to tell and it is our voice, in our language, one of the oldest languages in this world. This language will help you connect to where you are. It will help us to come together, where we learn from each other.”
We recently heard Victor Rostron on this cracking track, which shows his versatility.
