Lady Gaga Sings Jazz Songs at New York Fashion Week Party | Billboard
“Do you want to (expletively) shut up? We play jazz,” she told a few hundred people in New York City. “Damn rich people.”
Gaga performed at the New York Fashion Week party by Harper’s Bazaar, which featured Donatella Versace, Liberty Ross, Brooke Shields and R&B singers Maxwell and Miguel.
The 28-year-old pop star sang songs from his collaborative jazz album with Tony Bennett called Cheek to cheek, to be released September 23. She silenced the crowd at times when she hit impressive high notes.
Gaga wore short blonde hair and a black leather dress that she said her sister created for her.
The New York-born performer dedicated a cover of Cole Porter’s “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye” to her family and boyfriend, Chicago fire actor Taylor Kinney.
“So if you keep quiet while I sing a song to my boyfriend, I would appreciate it,” she told the audience at the black tie event.
The Friday event paid tribute to women of fashion, including Linda Evangelista, Shields and Gaga.
“An icon, I believe, is someone who has a strong message behind their beauty and I think every woman who is here tonight has it,” Gaga said on the red carpet. “I’m not sure I have it, but I’m pretty happy to be on the list with all of these awesome models, so thank you.”
