Brandi Carlisle Joins Soundgarden To Perform Classic Songs
Brandi Carlile joined the other members of Soundgarden on stage, performing one of the band’s tracks during their concert last weekend. The show took place last Saturday at the Gorge Amphitheater, where Carlile was joined by Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd. The group performed “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed”. The concert also marked Soundgarden’s first performance since the death of frontman Chris Cornell in 2017.
Carlile also covered both songs, along with Hayil, Cameron and Shepherd, on his 2020 EP, A rooster says – released as a special Record Store Day. The singer also paid tribute to the late Cornell when she performed ‘Black Hole Sun’ at I am the highway back in 2019.
Regarding Carlile’s set with Soundgarden, Cameron said, “Searching With My Good Eye Closed” was Brandi’s choice and it was a good choice. This is one of Chris’ greatest songs, it has so much depth. He’s a colossus.
Adding: “Hearing Brandi and the twins completely shake to that tune was amazing. I love how it turned out. Kim’s solo is pretty amazing too.
Chris Cornell has struggled with depression for most of his life. He was found dead in a hotel room on May 18, 2017, when the cause of death turned out to be suicide. After the news broke, many musicians paid tribute to Cornell and several concerts were held in his honor, including the I Am The Highway’concert. Besides Brandi Carlile, the concert included performances by Foo Fighters, Miley Cyrus and Josh Homme.
The band’s last album was their record King of beasts which was released in 2012. However, rumors have circulated of new material from the band and the late Cornell, including a cover album the singer recorded before his death.
