27 Queer Songs We Loved This Month : Queer Music Monthly June 2022
Monthly Queer Music is a collection of fresh songs from beloved queer music icons and innovative new artists that have been handpicked by Their’s editors and contributors.
This Pride month has seen a deluge of amazing new music from queer artists, so we had to expand our playlist to include 27 scorching tracks. Beloved Los Angeles trio Muna released their self-titled new album this month alongside a scintillating music video for their ’80s freestyle-inspired single “What I Want,” featuring plenty of flip phones and a cameo from iconic comedian Megan Stalter. Pop superstar Halsey’s voice soared on their powerful new song “So Good” and Their contributor Michael Love Michael has released the electrifying and moving new track, “Blue Eyed Devil”, which is sung partially in French.
June also fostered brilliant collaborations between The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Perfume Genius on the anthem “Spitting Off the Edge of the World”, between Cat Burns and Sam Smith on the duet “Go”, and between New Orlean’s Boyfriend and Big Freedia. on their hyperpop take on Le Tigre’s synth-punk classic “Deceptacon.” Such sublime unions are exactly what we needed for Pride.
Emerging queer talent continued to release groundbreaking music this summer with new tracks. DC’s idiosyncratic rockers Flasher released their particularly catchy “I’m Better,” the Onehetrix-produced “newdemo” Point Never by singer-songwriter Soccer Mommy, and Hercules and Love Affair’s Nomi Ruiz delivered the Lynchian jazz lullaby “Sailing”.
Check out our special boosted 27-song playlist below for these and other tunes from Pride Month.
